Reimagining the Future of Music

The Americas Chamber Orchestra (The ACO) is a professional chamber orchestra currently based at the Indiana University - Jacobs School of Music.

We are a performing arts ensemble which activates artistry and promotes cultural diversity among its musicians and the communities which they serve, through innovative musical projects. As musicians of the 21st century, we seek to reimagine the ways in which classical music, traditional, and multi-cultural music of the Americas is performed in public.

Our Story

At the end of 2019, a group of ten musicians, students at Indiana University Bloomington, came together to imagine a new and innovative musical ensemble. We sought to create a group which could perform classical and contemporary music, while demonstrating the complex cultures of Latin America and the Americas as a whole. Shortly thereafter, The Americas Chamber Orchestra (The ACO) was born.

Following a radio interview @ WFIU Bloomington, we staged our debut concert on February 23rd, 2020, in Recital Hall at Indiana University.

Looking ahead to the future, we plan to stage a concert series of six performances between September 2020 and September 2021. Our concerts will range from Symphonic music, to Traditional Colombian Cumbia, and small chamber ensemble presentations. We will also perform original film score music during this time period.
